Our Commitment to Student Safety

Safety is not an event at Chartwell — it is a continuous discipline. This page reflects our ongoing commitment to measuring, improving, and communicating how we protect every student, every day.

👋

A Message from Our Head of School

"Every child who comes to Chartwell is known — known by their teachers, their classmates, and by every adult on this campus. That is the foundation of everything we do here, and it is the foundation of how we approach safety. A school where every student is truly seen is a safer school. This page exists because our families deserve to know not only that we take safety seriously, but exactly how we are measuring it and working to improve it — every single day."

Our Commitment to Safety

Chartwell is committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment across our 60-acre campus for all students, staff, and visitors. We don't wait for incidents to prompt action — we continuously assess our safety posture and make improvements year-round.

🔐
Our Students Are Protected
Physical security, controlled access, and campus-wide safety measures are actively maintained and regularly evaluated across our entire 60-acre campus.
🎓
Our Staff Are Prepared
Every staff member is trained, drilled, and ready. From threat recognition to crisis response, our team knows exactly what to do when it matters most.
📣
You Will Always Be Informed
We believe families deserve to know how we measure and improve safety. If something happens, you will hear from us immediately through our alert system.

Our Emergency Response Protocols

Chartwell has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation — a nationally recognized, plain-language emergency response framework used by schools, businesses, and first responders across the country. Our staff and students are trained in all five protocol actions.

Protocol 1
Hold
Clear the hallways. Students and staff remain in classrooms with instruction continuing. Used for situations in the building requiring hallway control.
Protocol 2
Secure
Get inside. Lock outside doors. Business as usual inside. Used when there is a threat or hazard outside the school building.
Protocol 3
Lockdown
Locks, lights, out of sight. Used when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. No one enters or exits.
Protocol 4
Evacuate
Move students and staff from one location to another. Used to move to a safer location — away from a building or area — with direction provided on-site.
Protocol 5
Shelter
Used for a hazard requiring personal protection — such as severe weather or a hazardous materials event — with specific safety method applied.

Our Safety Assessment Framework

Our safety program is assessed against a nationally recognized framework built specifically for K–12 schools — standardized, measurable, and continuously improving.

01
Assess
Every safety zone across our campus is evaluated against a standardized framework — buildings, protocols, emergency response, staff readiness, and community communication.
02
Score
Assessment results are scored — giving our school a clear, honest picture of where we stand and where gaps exist. No assumptions. No self-grading.
03
Improve
Identified gaps are addressed with targeted action — updated protocols, additional training, facility upgrades, or strengthened first responder partnerships.
04
Reassess
We return to the beginning — verifying improvements held, identifying new gaps, and continuing the cycle. This process never stops.
