ED was created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies. ED's began with 4,400 employees and a $68 billion budget.

The primary focus of the School Shooters .info database is on perpetrators who intended to kill multiple victims in educational settings using firearms. A few incidents, however, are included that fall outside of these guidelines.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Monday it has awarded more than $85.3 million in school safety and security grants. “These federal resources will help to prevent school violence and give our students the support they need to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Attorney General William P. Barr.

WASHINGTON — Today, as part of National Preparedness Month, which is recognized each September to promote emergency planning, the U.S. Department of Education, along with the U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services, released a new planning guide to help districts support schools developing and maintaining customized emergency operations plans (EOPs).

“School safety is the number one priority of parents across the country, which is why the President directed DHS and other federal agencies to form a taskforce and provide schools, teachers, parents, and law enforcement with resources to identify, prepare for, respond to, and mitigate threats, “said Chad Wolf, Acting was created by the federal government to provide schools and districts with actionable recommendations to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive and grow.
